Hans Olav Lahlum melder at det blir oktoberturnering på Fagernes også i 2023. Fagernes International Autumn spilles fra søndag 8. til søndag 15. oktober, som er høstferieuken på Vestlandet.

Fagernes International Autumn 2023

Whether I like it or not – I am very likely to turn 50 this autumn! 2023 also marks the 30th Anniversary for my first international tournament as an organizer. Still it was, until some three weeks ago, a given plan for me and my helpful co-organizers not to make a second Fagernes tournament this year. Last year´s autumn tournament resulted in a too big financial deficit.

Our Easter tournament this year however became an inspiring step forward in the number of international participants as well as title norms. The playing hotel following an increased number of hotel guests could improve their terms somewhat for a possible second chess tournament at Fagernes in 2023. The tournament organizers have in turn unanimously concluded that we can arrange another quality title tournament without risks for an unacceptable deficit!

It remains unlikely that we can continue to organize two such quality tournaments for many years to come. We will however do it again this year, as we know many talented young players in particular are still looking for title qualifing tournaments with long time limits. We hope of course that many players known from recent Fagernes tournaments, as well as many new chessfriends, will use their chance to participate in Fagernes International Autumn from October 8 to October 15.
